New Medicine Service

Starting a new medicine for a long-term condition often comes with questions that only surface once you’re actually taking it, side effects, timing, whether it’s working. Our New Medicine Service follows up with you shortly after you start, so you’re not left to work it out alone. Get in touch if you’ve recently started something new.

What This Service Involves

A short while after you’re prescribed certain new medicines, we’ll check in with you, usually by phone or in person, to see how you’re getting on, whether you’ve had any side effects, and whether you’re taking it as intended.

Which Medicines Qualify

This service typically covers medicines for a set of long-term conditions, including certain treatments for blood pressure, diabetes, asthma, and blood-thinning, among others. If you’re not sure whether your new prescription qualifies, just ask us.

Why the Early Weeks Matter So Much

Most problems with a new medicine, whether that’s side effects, confusion about dosing, or simply forgetting to take it, tend to surface in the first few weeks. Catching issues early makes it far more likely you’ll stick with a treatment that’s actually helping you.

What a Follow-Up Conversation Looks Like

It’s a brief, practical chat, how you’re finding the medicine, anything unexpected you’ve noticed, and whether you have questions the original consultation didn’t cover. If something needs addressing, we’ll help sort it or point you back to your GP.

What You Get Out of It

Beyond just reassurance, this often catches small issues, like a side effect that’s actually manageable, or a dosing habit that’s slightly off, before they turn into a reason to stop taking the medicine altogether.
